The Cerritos
College volleyball team needed just over an hour to
sweep East Los Angeles College in a South Coast
Conference match on Friday night. The Falcons (6-3
overall, 3-1 SCC) posted a 25-12, 25-12, 25-14 win
over the Huskies and will look to ride that momentum
next Wednesday when they travel to Los Angeles
Harbor College for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
The win started
fast and ended that way, as the Falcons opened up
big leads in all three games. It was a 9-2 advantage
in the first game, followed by an 11-5 lead in the
second and 8-2 in the third. In fact, the second
game was as close as a 6-5 Cerritos lead, but the
team scored five straight points and never looked
back.
The comfortable
win allowed the team to rotate in more players, as
freshman
Sarah
Rodriguez (Montebello HS)
registered five kills, while freshman Janae Miley
(Calvary Chapel HS) was accurate on all
three of her kills on the night. Sophomore Yawen
Zhan (China) led the team with
eight kills, with sophomore
Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS)
adding seven.
The Falcons were
successful with their service, as they posted 11
aces, led by sophomore
Angelica Sievers (St. Joseph HS),
who had four, including three in one rotation.
Sophomore setter
Monique Gayton (La Serna HS)
shared duties and finished with 21 assists, while
sophomore
Kristen Trillo (Santa Fe HS)
added seven in the third game.
