On the strength of
their 37% kill percentage and 12 service aces, the
Cerritos College volleyball team had little trouble
in sweeping visiting Los Angeles City College in a
South Coast Conference match on Friday night. The
Falcons (8-5 overall, 5-3 SCC) swept the Cubs,
25-17, 25-6, 25-8 to snap a two-match losing streak.
The team will now travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech
College for a 7:00 p.m. match on Wednesday.
In sweeping LA
City, Cerritos received 11 kills in 16 attempts from
sophomore
Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS),
while sophomore Yawen
Zhan (China) was successful on
seven of her 14 kill attempts without an error. The
Falcons weren't tested all night and controlled
every aspect of the match. The team was very
successful with their serves, as freshman
Hannah
Johnson (La Habra HS) recorded
a career-high seven service aces.
In addition to Naranjo
and Zhan, freshman
Sarah
Rodriguez (Montebello HS)
posted five kills in 11 attempts, while freshman
Chanelle Puou (California HS)
added seven kills and six digs. Sophomore setter
Monique Gayton (La Serna HS)
dished out 23 assists to go along with her two
service aces, while sophomore
Angelica Sievers (St. Joseph HS)
led the team with seven digs.
