The Cerritos
College volleyball team started the second round of
South Coast Conference action the way they did in
the first round - with a win. The Falcons defeated
host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College 25-10, 25-12,
25-11 to improve to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in
conference play. The team will return to action next
Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. when they host rival Long
Beach City College.
In sweeping the
Lady Techsters, Cerritos received good all-around
hitting, as they team posted a .342 kill percentage
with freshman Chanelle Puou
(California HS) leading the way with 14
kills and just three errors. In addition to the
team's success at the net, they also added 15
service aces and were led by sophomore Krystel
Luna (Downey HS/Pasadena City
College) with six along with five digs, while
sophomore
Kristen Trillo (Santa Fe HS)
added four aces.
Sophomore Yawen
Zhan (China) accounted for
nine kills and a pair of blocks, with freshman
Sarah
Rodriguez (Montebello HS)
contributing four kills. Sophomore
Sarah Naranjo (Santa Fe HS),
who leads the team in kills, played just the first
game and posted three kills in six attempts.
Sophomore setter
Monique Gayton (La Serna HS)
dished out 27 assists, while freshman
Johanna Tope
(Bellflower HS) added three kills.
