The Cerritos
College volleyball opened the 2009 season over the
weekend by playing in the Cuyamaca Tournament, which
was a series of round-robin matches. The Falcons won
five of the nine games they played and swept both
games against both Cuyamaca College (25-17, 25-15)
and Chaffey College (25-23, 25-18), while taking one
of three games against Cypress College (25-19,
21-25, 11-15). The team was also swept in two close
matches against College of the Desert (22-25,
23-25). Cerritos will now enter the San Diego Mesa
Tournament, which will take place this Friday and
Saturday.
The tournament
opened with sophomore outside hitter

College of the Desert, and finished with 15 kill
errors, with Naranjo leading the team with five
kills. Puou was joined by sophomore
Cynthia
Andrade (South Gate HS) with
four kills each, while freshman
Sarah
Rodriguez (Montebello HS)
added three and four digs. Gayton (10 assists)
shared the setting duties with sophomore

finished with seven assists.

stepped up and led the way with seven kills in 10
attempts, while Rodriguez finished with six and Naranjo
