The Cerritos College volleyball team opened South Coast Conference play on Friday with a come-from-behind 17-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-17 win over host East Los Angeles College. It was the second win in a row for the Falcons (4-5, 1-0), who will host Long Beach City College at 6:30 p.m. at Gahr High on Wednesday in another conference match.
Leading the team was sophomore Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS), who registered 14 kills, along with a team-high 19 digs and 19 assists. After a first set, where the team made nine kill errors, they only posted 13 in the three sets they won. Sophomore Amber Finley (Gahr HS) added nine kills and shared the team lead with five blocks from her middle blocker position, while freshman middle blocker Andrea Garrett (Cerritos HS) finished with five blocks.
Sophomore Andrea Stovall (Lynwood HS) contributed six kills, while freshman setter Gloria Chang (Bellflower HS) came in to post 11 assists, with freshmen Madison Guastella (Lakewood HS), Katie Christensen (Gahr HS) and Johanna Peralta (Firebaugh HS) combining for 31 digs.
