02.04.12 - Cerritos pulls away
from LB City
Knowing
it would take wins over Long Beach City College
and East Los Angeles College to help secure
second place in the South Coast Conference, and
possible a top four seed in the upcoming
Southern California Regional Playoffs, the
Cerritos College women's basketball team took
one step closer with their 70-53 win over LB
City at Gahr High School on Saturday. The
Falcons maintained at least a one game lead over
East LA with the win, as they improved to 10-3
in the SCC and 20-6 on the season. Cerritos will
travel to face the Huskies on Wednesday at 6:00
p.m. in another important game, with just two
more games to follow.
In facing the Vikings (16-6, 8-5), Cerritos
broke open a close 40-39 lead with 16:00 left in
the second half, as it took Long Beach City
12:40 to score their next field goal, as they
relied on only six free throws during that
duration. During the time period, the Falcons
countered with 18 points to take a commanding
58-45 lead and were ahead by as much as 19
points in the final minute. LBCC went 0-for-10
from the field with nine turnovers during that
duration, which is what Cerritos needed to pull away
with the win...[more]
02.01.12 - Turnovers cost
Falcons crucial game
In an uncharacteristic
performance, the Cerritos College women's
basketball team turned the ball over 31 times
and at the end of the game, was forced to foul
Pasadena City College in their South Coast
Conference game on Wednesday night. The end
result was a 78-66 loss that puts the team's
second place standing in the conference in
jeopardy. The Falcons (19-6 overall), who
entered the night with a one-game lead over
third place Long Beach City College, maintained
their spot after first place Mt. San Antonio
defeated the Vikings on Wednesday. LBCC and East
Los Angeles are now just a game behind Cerritos,
while the Falcons have to play both teams before
the end of the regular season. They will host
Long Beach City at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Gahr
High School and then travel to East Los Angeles
next Wednesday, with two more games to be played
after that...[more]
01.30.12 - College to sponsor

Cerritos College Athletics and
the California Community College Men's and

01.28.12 - Falcons pull away
from LA Trade-Tech
With
9:48 left in the first half, Los Angeles
Trade-Tech College was holding on to a 16-13
lead against Cerritos College in a South Coast
Conference game at Gahr High School on Saturday
night. But by the time the first half ended, the
Falcons were holding a sizable 42-24 advantage
and eventually turned that into a 91-47 win. The
victory improved their season record to 19-5,
while they are now 9-2 in conference play with
five games remaining. Cerritos will now travel
to Pasadena City on Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m.
contest...[more]
01.25.12 - Cerritos loses to
Mt. SAC for third time
Through their first 23 games,
the Cerritos College women's basketball team is
a stellar 18-5 on the year and 8-2 in the South
Coast Conference. But after their 59-48
conference loss at Mt. San Antonio College on
Wednesday night, the Falcons have now seen three
of those setback come at the hands of the
Mounties, who improved to 21-2 and 10-0.
Cerritos now trails Mt. SAC by two games with
six remaining, including a 5:00 p.m. game
against Los Angeles Trade-Tech College (4-14,
1-8) on Saturday at Gahr High School...[more]
01.21.12 - 50-point win
highlighted by 17 three-pointers
For the
Cerritos College women's basketball team, they
have relied on their three-point shooting to
propel them to one of the top rankings in the
state. Their outside shooting was so prolific in
their 94-44 South Coast Conference win over ECC
Compton Center at Gahr High School on Saturday
night, that it resulted in a school-record 17
three-pointers. The Falcons (18-4, 8-1) drained
10 of them in the first half and shot a
remarkable 50% from both beyond the arc and
overall for their fifth win in row and ninth in
their last 10 games. The only team to beat them
in conference play, Mt. San Antonio, is their
opponent on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Walnut.
Sophomore Andrina Rendon
(St. Paul HS) was 4-for-5 from three point
range in the first half and finished the game with
14 points and eight rebounds. Her sister, freshman
Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS)
netted three from long range, while freshman Aljinee
Brunson (Lakewood HS) came off
the bench to connected on a pair...[more]
01.18.12 - Falcons post
21-point win over El Camino
After the first round of the
South Coast Conference schedule, the Cerritos
College women's basketball team has posted a 7-1

Camino College on Wednesday night to improve the
Falcons record to 17-4 overall. The team will

Saturday at Gahr High School. In their first
meeting, Cerritos defeated Compton, 76-31...[more]
01.14.12 - Cerritos dominates
short-handed Cougars
Facing
a team with just six players, the Cerritos
College women's basketball team was able to
rotate players in and out of the game to keep
their players fresh. After opening up a 16-0
lead to start the game, the Falcons saw all 11
of their players get on the scoreboard, en route
to a 63-33 South Coast Conference win over Los
Angeles Southwest College on Saturday night
at Gahr High School. The win improved the
#5-ranked team in the state to 16-4 overall and
6-1 in conference play. They will look for their
eighth win in nine game on Wednesday when they
travel to El Camino College for a 5:00 p.m.
conference game.
Freshman guard
Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS)
opened the game with a pair of three-pointers, while
Cerritos scored four of their first five baskets
from beyond the arch against the Cougars (2-13,
0-6), who had no defense for the outside shooting
and bench depth. LA Southwest did score the game's
next nine points after the Falcons jumped out to
their 16-0 lead, and it was a 29-17 lead at
intermission. It took the Cougars 8:47 to finally
get on the scoreboard in the first half, while 7:27
elapsed in the second half before they netted their
first basket. By then, it was a commanding 45-21
lead...[more]
01.06.12 - Miracle shot at
buzzer leads Falcons to win
Freshman
Diamond Roberts (Mayfair HS)
stole an inbound pass at half court, dribbled
twice and banked in a three-point basket at the
buzzer to send the Cerritos College women's
basketball team into overtime against East Los
Angeles College in a South Coast Conference game
on Friday night at Gahr High School. The
buzzer-beater knotted the game at 67-67 against
the Huskies (14-3, 4-1), who entered the game
ranked #5 in Southern California and #6 in the
state. Then, in overtime, sophomore Dershawna
Staves (Bellflower HS)
scored on a back-door layup with 1.5 seconds
left to give the Falcons (15-4, 5-1) a 73-71
victory. Cerritos came into the contest ranked
#8 in Southern California and #12 in the state.
They will now host Los Angeles Southwest College
at 5:00 p.m. next Saturday at Gahr HS.
At one point in the game, it didn't look like
the Falcons were going to be able to come back
from a 10-point deficit after going 9:04 without
making a basket. During that duration, East LA
outscored Cerritos, 22-9 with the only points
coming from the free throw line. The Huskies
saw Keyanna Johnson drain a trio
of three-pointers during that span, en route to her
game-high 23 points. But slowly, the Falcons started
to work their way back into the game, thanks in part
to a pair of technical fouls on East LA that seemed
to shake their confidence...[more]
01.04.12 - Poor free throw
shooting almost costs game
As a team, the Cerritos College
women's basketball squad had shot 65% from the
free throw line over their first 17 games, which
helped them get off to a 13-4 start. But, on
Wednesday night at Long Beach City College,
their free throw shooting almost cost the
Falcons the game. In a tight battle with the
Vikings, Cerritos was a meager 16-for-35 from
the charity stripe, but still had enough depth
and rebounding ability to post a 52-44 South
Coast Conference win to improve to 14-4 on the
year and 4-1 in conference play. The Falcons
will now host another improved team, East Los
Angeles College at 6:00 p.m. at Gahr High School
on Friday. The win was also the ninth in a row
over the Vikings and 31st in their last 34
meetings.
Neither team shot the ball well from the field,
with the Falcons (27%) and the Vikings (28%)
both trying to maintain a hectic pace to the
game. The saving grace for Cerritos was that
they out-rebounded Long Beach City, 64-40, which
included a 28-10 advantage on the offensive end.
After a Tiffany Taylor layup with 3:06 left in
the second half, Cerritos was clinging to a
42-41 advantage. But sophomore
Regina English (Bellflower HS) netted three free throws, followed by a basket from freshman
Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS) to put the team up, 47-41 with 1:19 remaining. Rendon (six points, four assists, four steals) then added a pair of free throws before a three-pointer by LBCC's (11-3, 2-3) Joanna Jaramillo made it a 49-45 lead with :29 seconds left...[more]
12.29.11 - Loss prevents team

In their first meeting of the

soundly defeated by 22 points. Three weeks
later, in the championship game of the Fullerton
Tournament, the Falcons found themselves up
against the same Mountie team on Thursday. with
a chance at the win, Cerritos got a close as one
point late in the game, but a pair of free
throws by Danielle Peacon clinched a 61-58 win
by Mt. SAC to hand the team their fourth loss in
17 games. The Falcons will now resume South
Coast Conference play on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
when they travel to Long Beach City College...[more]

College team in their own tournament, the
Cerritos College women's basketball team broke a
39-39 second half tie with an 8-0 run and held
on for a 72-58 victory on Wednesday. The win
propels the Falcons (13-3) into the championship
game against Mt. San Antonio College at 4:00
p.m. on Thursday. The Mounties snapped a
seven-game Cerritos win streak earlier in the
month, while the Falcons have gone on to win
their next four games.

forwards Andrina Rendon (St. Paul HS) and
Regina English (Bellflower HS), who each scored 15 points, while English also hauled down a team-high 13 rebounds. Rendon netted a trio of three-pointers on the day, as did freshman forward

to pull away from Palomar College in the opening
round of the Fullerton Tournament on Tuesday
afternoon. The Falcons went on an 11-2 run to
open up a 25-13 first half lead and then took a
36-17 advantage into the half, on their way to a

12.21.11 - Cerritos handles
Pasadena City, 75-58
If the
Cerritos College women's basketball team had any
concern about getting off to a quick start
against the #20th-ranked team in the state, the
first two minutes of the game answered that
question. The Falcons, who entered the game
ranked #12 in the state, jumped out to an 11-0
lead against Pasadena City College in a South
Coast Conference game at Gahr High School on
Wednesday night and were not threatened the
entire game. Cerritos won their ninth game in
the last 10 contests with a 75-58 decision
to improve to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the SCC,
while the Lancers fell to 6-6 and 1-2. The
Falcons will now enter the Fullerton Tournament,
which starts next Tuesday.
Sophomore forward Andrina Rendon
(St. Paul HS) came out with a hot hand and
drained a pair of three-pointers, as Cerritos saw
their lead swell to 26-5 at one point, with Rendon
accounting for 11 of those points. Also providing
outside shooting were the trio of freshmen
Diamond
Roberts (Mayfair HS) and
Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS),
along with sophomore Armelia
Patterson (Long Beach Millikan HS).
Pasadena City tried to get back into the game with
the services of Destinee Sellers, who finished with
12 first half points. But it was the fast-break by
the Falcons that led them to 12 assists in their 18
first half baskets. Marissa Rendon led the team with
six helpers in the first half...[more]
12.16.11 - Offensive outburst
leads to big win
After going minutes without
scoring against Mt. San Antonio College a week
earlier, the Cerritos College women's basketball
team had no trouble finding the bottom of the
basket in their South Coast Conference game at
Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday. The
Falcons (10-3, 2-1) opened up an early lead and
were never threatened, as they recorded a 95-60
victory. The 95 points were the most scored by a
Cerritos team since they recorded a 96-67 win
over East Los Angeles College in 2002. The team
will now host Pasadena City College next
Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Gahr High in
another SCC contest...[more]

Cerritos College women's basketball team was
able to outscore Mt. San Antonio College, 20-8
to end the first half in their South Coast
Conference game at Cypress College on Friday
night. But, in the second half, the Falcons
(9-3) weren't able to repeat the comeback and
dropped a 72-50 decision to drop to 1-1 in
conference action, The game at Cypress College
was considered a home game for Cerritos, while
the majority of them are to be played at Gahr
High School while the gym construction is being
completed. The Falcons will now travel to Los
Angeles Trade-Tech College for a 6:00 p.m.
conference game next Friday.
Mt. SAC (10-2) relied heavily on center
Danielle Peacon for their scoring, as they got
her the ball inside. The end result was a
13-for-17 shooting night for a game-high 31
points to go along with her 13 rebounds. By
contrast, the Falcons looked to score from the
outside, but netted only 5-of-14 shots from
three-point range. Freshman guard
Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS), in
her second start of the season, led Cerritos
with 15 points and three steals, while sophomore
