The
Cerritos College women’s basketball team
remained undefeated in the South Coast
Conference South Division play after
posting a 75-44 win over El Camino
College at The Aviary on Friday night.
The big win was the fifth in as many
tries in divisional play for the
Falcons, who improved to 5-0 in the
South Division and 21-8 overall. The
Warriors dropped to 10-15 and 3-2.
Cerritos will look to stay unbeaten in
the division when they host cross-town
rival Long Beach City College at 5:30
p.m. on Wednesday.
The Falcons forced El
Camino to turn the ball over 21 times,
which helped them create fast break
opportunities, while they complimented
that with their outside shooting
prowess. Leading the way in the aerial
attack was freshman forward
Mercedes Taylor (Gahr HS),
who netted all three of her treys and
finished the game with 19 points and six
rebounds. She connected on both the
outside shot, as well as from the key,
making 8-of-10 shots on the night.
Sophomore guard
Jaquita Payne (Lynwood HS)
came off the bench and hit a
three-pointer in each half, while the
team made 55% of their shots on the
night.
Sophomore forward
Genesis Lewis (Paramount HS)
added 14 points and five rebounds, while
freshman guard
Arielle McClellan (Paramount
HS) had a great all-around game with
12 points (6-of-9 shooting), five
assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Freshman
Dominique Washington (Long
Beach Jordan HS) also made the most
of her extra minutes, as she added seven
points and three rebounds off the bench.
Cerritos accounted for 24 points off the
bench, with Payne (six points) and
freshman
Rachel Butler (Calvary Chapel HS),
who had five points, also playing well.
