Cerritos
College sophomore forward
Maltresa Neely (Downey HS)
has a knack for showing up for big games
during her career with the Falcons. None
was more evident than her performance in
helping lead the Falcons to a 79-70 win
over #4-ranked Pasadena City College on
Wednesday night. Neely scored 16 of her
game-high 22 points in the second half
and also led all players with 12
rebounds, as the team posted their first
win over the Lancers (18-3) since 2001.
Cerritos (14-7) will get another chance
to knock off a high ranked team, as they
travel to face two-time defending state
champion Mt. San Antonio College on
Friday in another South Coast Conference
crossover game.
Even though Neely was
outstanding in the win, it was a
complete team effort, as the Falcons had
four players score in double-figures,
while they out-rebounded PCC, 52-43.
Leading 71-62 late in the game, Cerritos
closed out the victory after freshman
guard
Arielle McClellan (Paramount
HS) netted four free throws, and
finished the game with 11 points and a
season-high eight rebounds.
Outside shooting also played a part
in the win, as the Falcons drained
8-of-20 from three-point range. Coming
off the bench to provide much-needed
support were freshmen
Dominique Washington (Long
Beach Jordan HS) and
Rachel Butler (Calvary Chapel HS),
who combined to drain 3-of-7 and with
Butler scoring nine points and dishing
off three assists. Washington finished
the game with six points and two steals.
Sophomore guard
Tiffany Wilson (Mayfair HS)
added 12 points, six rebounds and five
assists, while sophomore forward
Genesis Lewis (Paramount HS)
finished with 10 points and eight
caroms. Freshman forward
Mercedes Taylor (Gahr HS)
was strong on the boards, pulling down
nine, while she also added nine points.
