After their
79-70 win over 4th-ranked
Pasadena City College on Wednesday
night, the Cerritos College women’s
basketball team had their sights set on
knocking off the top-ranked team in the
state, Mt. San Antonio, on Friday night.
After playing the Mounties (21-1) close
for the first 35 minutes of the game and
trailed 54-48, the Falcons (14-8) saw
Mt. SAC close out the game by outscoring
Cerritos, 19-7 to record a 73-55 win.
The team will now continue South Coast
Conference crossover action and travel
to East Los Angeles College on
Wednesday.
It was a
three-pointer by sophomore guard
Tiffany Wilson (Mayfair HS)
with 4:51 that got the team to within
six points (54-48) before the final
surge by Mt. SAC. Turning in her best
game of the season, Wilson scored the
team’s final 11 points and finished with
a career-high 30 points.
Cerritos used an aggressive half
court defense to slow the Mounties down
and had their fair share of second
chance opportunities. On the night, the
Falcons had 17 offensive rebounds, with
sophomore forward
Genesis Lewis (Paramount HS)
leading the team with nine. However, she
struggled mightily from the field,
converting just 2-of-17 shots for four
points, but did finish with 13 rebounds
and three assists.
Wilson also contributed five
rebounds, four assists and three steals,
while sophomore forward
Maltresa Neely (Downey HS)
chipped in with eight points, seven
rebounds, five blocked shots and three
assists. As for freshman forward
Mercedes Taylor (Gahr HS),
she added five points, eight rebounds
and five steals in the loss.
