The
Cerritos College women’s basketball team
had four players score in double-figures
and recorded an easy 73-35 South Coast
Conference South Division win over Long
Beach City College on Wednesday night.
The Falcons, who improved to 17-8 on the
year, are now 2-0 in divisional play.
The team returns home for their first
game since January 4, as they play host
to Los Angeles Harbor College next
Wednesday.
In the first half,
the Falcons jumped out to an early 23-7
lead, as sophomore forward
Genesis Lewis (Paramount HS)
scored eight of the team’s points,
including a three-pointer. As a team in
the first half, Cerritos shot 49% from
the field and forced 14 Viking
turnovers, while also outrebounding
their opponents, 27-19.
Lewis, who finished with a game-high
20 points and 15 rebounds, had 15 of
those points in the first half, while
freshman forward
Mercedes Taylor (Gahr HS)
picked up the scoring in the second
half, netting 11 of her 12 points, while
also pulling down eight rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Maltresa Neely (Downey HS)
was the second Falcon to register a
double-double, as she accounted for 14
points and 11 rebounds, while she also
led the team with four steals and three
blocked shots.
Freshman guard
Arielle McClellan (Paramount
HS) contributed 11 points, seven
rebounds and three assists in the win,
with sophomore guard
Colleen Cooley (Paramount HS)
adding four points, four rebounds and
four assists. The trio of freshmen
Rachel Butler (Calvary
Chapel HS),
Dominique Washington (Long
Beach Jordan HS) and
Mele
Motuliki (Long Beach Jordan HS)
each pulled down three boards off the
bench.
