The
Cerritos College women’s basketball team
won their fourth game in a row, and
eighth in their last nine tries, with a
74-26 decision over Los Angeles Harbor
College on Wednesday night. With the
win, the 10th ranked Falcons
are now 18-8 overall and lead the South
Coast Conference South Division with a
3-0 record. As for the Seahawks, they
dropped to 8-9 on the year and 1-2 in
divisional play. Cerritos will now play
host to Los Angeles Southwest College at
5:30 p.m. on Friday night in another
divisional game.
Winning by 48 points
was another opportunity for the team to
mix in the entire bench, while at the
same time, the team displayed their
passing skills, which led the 22 assists
out of their 31 baskets, with seven
players registering at least two
helpers.
Freshman forward
Mercedes Taylor (Gahr HS)
scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in
the first half, while she led the team
with 14 rebounds. Sophomore forward
Genesis Lewis (Paramount HS)
was the second Falcon player to record a
double-double, as she finished with 14
points (6-of-9 shooting) and 12
rebounds, The team almost had a third
player eclipse the mark, but freshman
forward
Mele Motuliki (Long Beach
Jordan HS) came up short with 11
points and nine rebounds.
The game quickly looked to be a
lop-sided win for the Falcons, as they
were up by double digits just a few
minutes into the game. After shooting
46% from the first in the first half,
they finished the game converting 43.7%
of their shots, while they pulled down a
season-high 71 rebounds. The 28
offensive boards were more than the 25
total recorded by the Seahawks.
Freshman guard
Arielle McClellan (Paramount
HS) added 13 points, seven rebounds
and five assists, while sophomore
forward
Maltresa Neely (Downey HS)
added eight points, eight rebounds and
three assists. Off the bench, freshman
Shaneisha Wofford (Cabrillo
HS) and sophomore
Jaquita Payne (Lynwood HS)
each pulled in five rebounds, while
freshman
Anna Soltis (Norwalk HS)
had thee points, four rebounds and three
assists.
