The Cerritos College women's basketball team started their South Coast Conference South Division game on Friday against Los Angeles Southwest College by leading 15-1 and held the Cougars to without a field goal for the first 10:51 of the game. The Falcons saw LA Southwest get to within five points in the second half (50-45), but went on to record a 63-50 victory. Cerritos is now 17-12 on the year and 5-1 in divisional play and will travel to El Camino College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday for another South Division game.

In opening up their early lead, the Falcons drained a trio of three-pointers, with two coming from freshman guard Adria Jackson (Inglewood HS). But it was a 21-17 Cerritos lead with 3:51 left in the first half after Brandi Bradford hit a three-pointer. But the Cougars would only get a pair of free throws the remainder of the first half, while the Falcons saw freshman forward Vannesa Faagata (Paramount HS) score the team's final six points in the half.

The lead swelled to 41-30 with 12:41 left in the game after Jackson hit her third three-pointer of the game, while the teams traded baskets for that majority of the game the rest of the way.

Faagata led the team with 16 points (7-of-10 FG), pulled down seven rebounds and blocked three shots, while freshman guard Maleta Daughtery (Redondo HS) finished with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jackson ended with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals for Cerritos, while sophomore guard Rachel Butler (Calvary Chapel HS) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to go with her six points and four assists.

Bradford led LA Southwest (9-17, 2-3) with 15 points, with Zative Woods adding 13 points off the bench.
