The Cerritos College women's basketball team closed out their regular season with a convincing 63-39 South Coast Conference South Division win over ECC Compton Center at home on Wednesday night. The Falcons, champions of the South Division, finished the regular season with a 20-12 mark, while they went 7-1 in divisional play. The 20-win season was the second in a row, while they won eight of their last nine games to close out the season. Cerritos will now find out on Monday where they are seeded in the Southern California Regional Playoffs when they open next Wednesday.

Even with the 24-point win over the Lady Tartars, the Falcons were fighting for their lives midway through the second half with the score 35-33. But a 20-5 run put some distance between the teams, as Cerritos went on to close out ECC Compton Center.

The start of the run came on a three-pointer from freshman guard Raven Tripp (John Glenn HS), while sophomore guard Cecily Garcia (St. Joseph HS) also netted one from beyond the arc. As a team, the Falcons made six three-pointers, with one coming from six different players.

Sophomore forward Mercedes Taylor (Gahr HS) led all scorers with 17 points and she hauled in seven rebounds, while freshman guard Maleta Daughtery (Redondo HS) added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. All eight players had at least one rebound and assist, while seven players scored the for the Falcons. Sophomore guard Rachel Butler (Calvary Chapel HS) chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds, with freshman guard Vannesa Faagata (Paramount HS) contributing eight points and Tripp adding seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
