Led by sophomore
guard Adria
Jackson's (Lynwood HS) 27
points, the Cerritos College women's basketball team
thought they had done enough to post a win over
visiting Riverside College on Friday night. But the
Falcons were victimized by 24 turnovers and wound up
being defeated, 71-65. Cerritos (7-6) will now
compete in the Orange Coast Tournament and open on
Friday at 1:00 p.m. against Southwestern College.
Leading 35-28 at
intermission, Cerritos had no answer for the duo of
Gloria Thomas and Crystal Vazquez, who combined to
score 23 second half points. More importantly, the
Tigers (8-4) were successful at the free throw line
late in the game, making 7-of-8 down the stretch to
hold off the Falcons.
Jackson, who
netted 8-of-15 shots, also contributed six rebounds,
three steals and two blocked shots, while freshman
guard
Naomi
Perkins (Artesia HS) came off
the bench to post 17 points. The team played without
their leading rebounder, freshman
Rose Boatner (Centennial HS),
and were out-rebounded by the Tigers, 43-25.
Freshman Montanique
Washington (Long Beach Jordan HS)
added eight points and five boards, with freshman
April Perry (Cabrillo HS)
accounting for seven points and six rebounds.
