The Cerritos College women's basketball team sprinted out to a 35-19 halftime lead over Southwestern College in the first round of the Orange Coast Tournament on Friday and turned it into a convincing 72-49 win. The Falcons (8-6), the defending tournament champions, will now advance to the championship semi-finals on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., where they will face Saddleback College.

In the win, the Falcons not only drained seven three-pointers, they saw the Jaguars go 0-for-15 from three-point range and shoot just 28% from the field. By contrast, Cerritos converted 45% of their field goals and out-rebounded Southwestern, 53-37.

Freshman forward Rose Boatner (Centennial HS) returned to the lineup and scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting and led the team with 13 rebounds. After going scoreless in her last game, sophomore guard Maleta Daughtery (Redondo Union HS) led all scorers with 18 points, which included four three-pointers, while she also dished off four assists. Last year Daughtery was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. As a team, the Falcons made 29 field goals and were credited with 20 assists.
