Freshman forward
Rose Boatner (Centennial HS)
came within two rebounds of tying a school
record, as the Cerritos College women's
basketball team clinched at least a share of the
South Coast Conference South Division
championship with their 56-45 win over El Camino
College at The Aviary on Friday night. The
Falcons (17-11, 4-1) close out the regular
season next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when they
host Long Beach City College.
As for Boatner, she hauled down a career-high 25
rebounds, which is tied for the second most in a
game in school history and came within two
boards of sharing the record of 27 caroms, set
by Ebony Charles against
Pasadena City College in 1996. In fact, the 25
rebounds ties Charles, who had 25 in the same
season against Compton College.
In addition to her rebounds (15 offensive), Boatner
shared the team lead with 14 points, while
freshman guard
April
Perry (Cabrillo HS) also
scored 14 points, along with four rebounds, four
assists and three steals. The duo of sophomore
guards Maleta Daughtery
(Redondo Union HS) and Adria
Jackson (Lynwood HS) each
chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.
The Falcons held a double-digit lead the
majority of the second half and had it as high
as 13 points at 40-27 after freshman guard Jazlyn Afusia
(St. Paul HS) drained a three-pointer
with 8:03 left in the second half.
