Team locks down share of

Needing a victory to ensure at least a share of
the South Coast Conference South Division
championship, the Cerritos College women's
basketball team secured that with a 70-53
win over Long Beach City College at The Aviary
on Wednesday. The title marks the second season
in a row the Falcons won the championship and
will wait until Monday to find out where they
are seeded in the Southern California Regional
Playoffs. The team is a half game ahead of Los
Angeles Southwest College, who closes out their
regular season on Friday against El Camino
College.
Cerritos (18-11, 5-1) opened up an early lead
and never looked back against the Vikings (3-21,
0-6), It was a 23-9 advantage with 9:11 left in
the first half after freshman guard Jazlyn Afusia
(St. Paul HS) hit her second straight
three-pointer in a row and third in the half.
The Falcons took a 39-26 lead into intermission
and then pushed their lead as high as 23 points
(51-28) with 15:36 left in the second half after
an offensive rebound and basket by sophomore
guard Adria
Jackson (Lynwood HS).

Perry (Cabrillo HS) led
the way with 17 points, six rebounds and four
assists, while freshman forward
Rose Boatner (Centennial HS)
hauled down 15 rebounds to accompany her 15
points. As a team the Falcons out-rebounded Long
Beach City, 57-29, which included a 27-9
advantage on the offensive side.
All seven players contributed at least one
rebound, with Jackson checking in with 11 to go
along with her nine points, while Afusia
finished with 13 points and five assists.
Jocelyn Arce led the Vikings with 19 points,
while Rayven Sellers added 17 points, seven
rebounds and four assists.
