For the last several weeks of the regular
season, the Cerritos College women's basketball
has been forced to play with seven players due
to injuries. They were able to play well enough
to secure a share of the South Coast Conference
South Division title and berth in the Southern
California Regional Playoffs as the #12-seeded
team. After a first round bye, the Falcons
(18-12) faced #5-seeded Riverside College (22-8)
on Saturday and the end result was an 89-66 that
ended the team's season.
After staying close for the first few minutes,
Cerritos saw the Tigers go on a 7-0 run for a
15-8 lead they would never relinquish. The
Falcons struggled from the field in the first
half (7-for-38 FG) and trailed 39-19 at
intermission. They played a much better second
half, but Riverside had too much depth on the
bench and Cerritos ran out of gas and time.
On the night, sophomore guard Adria
Jackson (Lynwood HS) led
the team with 19 points, while freshman guard
April
Perry (Cabrillo HS)
contributed 13 points, four rebounds and two
steals. Freshman forward
Rose Boatner (Centennial HS)
led everyone with 14 rebounds to go along with
her 12 points and three steals, with sophomore
guard Maleta Daughtery
(Redondo Union HS) finishing with nine
points and four assists.
