Looking for their
second win of the season over Mt. San Antonio
College, the Cerritos College women's basketball
team ran out of steam in the second half and
suffered a 65-46 South Coast Conference crossover
road game on Wednesday night. The Falcons (11-9)
will now return for their first home game in a month
when they host ECC Compton Center and 5:30 p.m. on
Friday in another crossover game.
Trailing only
32-28 at intermission, Cerritos saw the Mounties
(13-5) slowly pull away, thanks in part to their
rebounding and free throw accuracy. Mt. San Antonio
out-rebounded the Falcons, 24-13 in the second half,
while they converted 16-of-20 from the charity
stripe. By comparison, Cerritos was only 1-for-7
from the free throw line and struggled from the
field, making only 6-of-30 shots.
Sophomore guard Maleta Daughtery
(Redondo Union HS) led the team with 14
points and four assists, but netted only 4-of-17
shots, while freshman guard
April Perry
(Cabrillo HS) came off the bench to
contribute 12 points, three rebounds and three
assists. Sophomore ShaGourney
Lewis (Sidney Lanier, AL HS)
led the team with seven caroms off the bench, while
the duo of sophomore guard Adria
Jackson (Lynwood HS) and
freshman guard Jazlyn Afusia
(St. Paul HS) each added six points.
