The Cerritos
College women's basketball team used their overall
team speed and shooting touch to open a sizable lead
at East Los Angeles College on Friday night and rode
that to a 78-45 South Coast Conference crossover
win. The victory improved the team's record to 13-9,
as they begin South Divisional play on Wednesday
night. The Falcons will host Los Angeles Southwest
College at 5:30 p.m. and begin defense of their
divisional title.
In breaking out to
a 43-14 halftime lead over the Huskies (7-11),
Cerritos used a combination of fast break points and
three-point shooting. As a team, Cerritos drained a
trio of three-pointers, while six of their nine
other baskets came as a result of layups. On the
night, the Falcons netted 28-of-51 shots (54.9%),
while they recorded assists in 25 of their 28
baskets.
Sophomore guard Maleta Daughtery
(Redondo Union HS) dished out a career-high
10 assists to go along with her seven points and
five rebounds, while freshman forward
Rose Boatner (Centennial HS)
hauled down a season-high 17 rebounds in the win.
Four of the five starters scored in double-figures,
led by freshman
Naomi
Perkins (Artesia HS), who led
all scorers with 15 points and hit three
three-pointers. Sophomore Adria
Jackson (Lynwood HS) finished
with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Boatner and
freshman guard Jazlyn Afusia
(St. Paul HS) both contributed 11 points.
