The Cerritos
College women's basketball team opened their 2009-10
season on the road at Irvine Valley College on
Friday night and came out on the short end of a
60-40 decision. The Falcons (0-1) struggled from the
field, as they netted just 1-of-22 shots from
three-point range and committed 28 turnovers. The
team will look to turn things around when they
travel to the Sierra Tournament this weekend, with
their first game slated for Friday.
Down just 28-18 at
intermission, the Falcons tried to get back into the
game with outside shooting, but the shots weren't
going down. Freshman
April Perry
(Cabrillo HS), who missed all six of her
treys, led the team with 10 points and added four
rebounds before fouling out. Sophomore Adria
Jackson (Lynwood HS) accounted
for eight points and four steals, while sophomore Maleta Daughtery
(Redondo Union HS) finished with seven
points and three steals.
As a team,
Cerritos had 39 rebounds, as freshman
Rose Boatner (Centennial HS)
came off the bench to pull down five to go along
with her five points. As for freshman
Michelle
Webb (Santa Fe HS), she led
the team with six caroms, with freshman Montanique
Washington (Long Beach Jordan HS)
chipping in with seven points.
