05.19.11 - Pair of women's basketball players sign
Cerritos College women's basketball players April Perry (Cabrillo HS) and Rose Boatner (Centennial HS), who were both two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selections, have both signed scholarships to continue their collegiate careers at Southern University of New Orleans, and NAIA school. The duo helped the Falcons finish in a tie for second place in the SCC, as the team concluded with a 23-7 record...[more]

02.25.1 - Falcons defeated in playoffs, 68-66
Montanique Washington scored eight points and added 11 rebounds in a losing cause.If the Cerritos College women's basketball team is going to look back on their 68-66 loss to Riverside College in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Friday night at Gahr High School, they need only to look at their free throw shooting. The Falcons, who entered the post-season as the #4-seeded team, were a porous 16-for-30 from the charity stripe, while their 8-of-32 three-point shooting didn't stand out as much as their free throw inaccuracy.

Cerritos (23-7), who came in a tie for second place in the competitive South Coast Conference, had one last chance to send the game into overtime, but a last-second shot by sophomore guard Montanique Washington (Long Beach Jordan HS) rimmed out and the loose ball rolled out of bounds as the clock expired...[more]

 

02.21.11 - Cerritos opens playoffs at home
April Perry leads th Falcons into the playoffs.The Cerritos College women's basketball team has earned a bye in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host Riverside Community College on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Gahr High School in the second round. The Falcons (23-6), who finished in a tie for second place in the South Coast Conference, received the #4 seed for the playoffs, while the Tigers (17-12) were seeded #13 and placed fourth in the Orange Empire Conference.

Ticket prices are: $8.00 general admission and $5.00 for identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children less than 12 years of age.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the #5-seeded Orange Coast College game against #12-seeded Southwestern College, who face each other on Saturday. The third round playoff game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2 with the Falcons serving as host if they defeat Riverside...[more]
 

02.20.11 - Five Falcons earn All-Conference
Led by two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selections April Perry (Cabrillo HS), and forward Rose Boatner (Centennial HS), the Cerritos College women's basketball team had five of their players earn all-conference honors. 02.18.11 - Win sets the tone for post-season
The Cerritos College women's basketball team will find out on Monday where they are seeded for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons (23-6 overall, 13-3 SCC), ranked #5 in the state, closed out the regular season with a 67-57 win at El Camino College on Friday night. The team enters the post-season winning 12 of their last 13 games and the win over the Warriors (12-14, 7-9) was well in hand, despite the 10-point victory...[more]

02.15.11 - Cerritos wears down LA Southwest, 75-64
April Perrry scored 16 points and dished off eight assists in win.Playing with only six players, it was only a matter of time before the Cerritos college women's basketball team was going to wear down Los Angeles Southwestern College in their South Coast Conference game at Gahr High School on Tuesday night. The Falcons (22-6 overall, 12-3 SCC), who opened up a 17-point first half lead, fought off a second half surge by the Cougars (9-18, 4-11) for a 75-64 win. Cerritos is locked in a second place tie with Pasadena City College with just one regular season game remaining, as they team travels to El Camino College for a 5:00 p.m. contest.

In opening up their biggest lead of the game (28-11) in the first half, the Falcons received timely outside shooting, as four different players hit three-pointers. Sophomore guard April Perry (Cabrillo HS), who scored nine of her team-high 16 points in the first half hit her trey that put the team up 26-11, while freshman forward Jasmine Mitchell (Downey HS) added a bucket with 8:21 for the largest lead...[more]


02.09.11 - Falcons hold onto second place with win
The Cerritos College women's basketball team held on to their 1/2 game lead over Pasadena City College for second place in the South Coast Conference after posting a 61-54 win at East Los Angeles College on Wednesday night. The Falcons, ranked #5 in the state, have two regular season games left before playoff seedings are announced. Cerritos (21-6, 11-3) will host Los Angeles Southwest College at 6:00 p.m. next Tuesday and then finish up at El Camino College next Friday...[more]

02.04.11 - Cerritos rebounds with convincing win
After one of their worst performances of the season on Tuesday night, the Cerritos College women's basketball team rebounded in strong fashion by posting a 64-32 South Coast Conference win at Long Beach City College on Friday night. The Falcons, ranked #4 in the state, improved to 20-6 overall and 10-3 in the SCC, while the Vikings fell to 5-17 and 1-12. With just three regular season games remaining, the team will now travel to East Los Angeles College for a 6:00 p.m. game on Wednesday...[more]

In a game that would allow the Cerritos College women's basketball team to gain a little breathing room in the tightly-contested South Coast Conference, the team encountered their worst shooting night of the season against visiting Pasadena City College at Gahr High School on Tuesday night. The Falcons entered the night with a half game lead over the Lancers, but that went away with their 75-47 loss. With the loss, Cerritos drops to 19-6 overall and 9-3 in the SCC, while Pasadena City improves to 19-4 and 9-2, which includes leapfrogging over the Falcons for second place behind Mt. San Antonio College. With four regular season games remaining, Cerritos will now face Long Beach City College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Included in their horrible shooting night in where the Falcons missed their first 26 three-point attempts, the team also committed 22 turnovers, while the Lancers added 14 offensive rebounds to help their cause. The loss also snapped an eight-game winning streak for Cerritos...[more]


01.28.11 - Win sets up another big game for Cerritos
On the strength of their 63-51 South Coast Conference win at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday night, the Cerritos College women's basketball team will now host Pasadena City College on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Gahr High School. With the Falcons (19-5, 9-2) alone in second place behind Mt. San Antonio College (21-3, 10-1), a win over the third place Lancers (18-4, 8-2) will put a little distance between the two teams with only four games left after their meeting...[more]

01.25.11 - Third time results in impressive win
The first two times the Cerritos College women's basketball team faced Mt. San Antonio College, the Falcons had stretches in each game where they struggled from the field and wound up losing games by double-digits. On Tuesday in a South Coast Conference game at Gahr High School, Cerritos jumped out to a 40-22 lead and turned that into an impressive 83-70 win over the Mounties. The Falcons (18-5, 8-2), who moved within a game of first place with their seventh win in a row - and 10th in their last 11 games - will now travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday in a 5:00 p.m. game. 01.21.11 - Falcons win with balanced attack
Playing against a depleted ECC Compton Center roster, the Cerritos College women's basketball team posted their sixth win in a row - and ninth in their last 10 games - as they record a 79-42 South Coast Conference win over the Lady Tartars on Friday night. The Falcons (17-5, 7-2) will host top-ranked Mt. San Antonio at 6:00 p.m. at Gahr High in a critical conference game. 01.18.11 - Cerritos wins high-scoring affair
In three of the last four games, the Cerritos College women's basketball team has scored over 80 points. In two of those games, the Falcons won by a combined 63 points. On Tuesday nigh at Gahr High School in a South Coast Conference game, Cerritos was in a tough battle from the first tip. After seeing what appeared to be a comfortable six-point lead with 1:11 turn into a nail-biter, the Falcons came away with an 82-78 win over El Camino College. 01.14.11 - Slow start winds up in 23-point win
With a penchant for starting games slowly, the Cerritos College women's basketball team broke open a four-point halftime lead and finished the night with a 74-51 South Coast Conference win at Los Angeles Southwest College on Friday night. The win was the fourth in a row and seventh in the last eight games for the Falcons (15-5, 5-2), who will host El Camino at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Gahr High...[more]

With visiting East Los Angeles College as close as six points (55-49) with over 10 minutes remaining in the second half of their South Coast Conference women's basketball game at Gahr High School on Friday, the Cerritos College women's basketball team thought they were in for a fight the remainder of the game. But the Falcons finished off the Huskies by outscoring them 27-10 the remainder of the game to record an 82-59 victory. Ranked #6 in the state, Cerritos (14-5 overall, 4-2 SCC) will now travel to Los Angeles Southwest College for a 5:00 p.m. conference game on Friday.

The late surge was a balanced attack, but it was back-to-back three pointers by sophomore guard Jazlyn Afusia (St. Paul HS) and freshman guard Armelia Patterson (Long Beach Millikan HS) that sealed the deal for the Falcons. Even though they started slowly in their South Coast Conference game on Wednesday night against Long Beach City College, the Cerritos College women's basketball team began to pull away before the end of the first half. They scored points in bunches and finished with an 84-44 win to run their record to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in the SCC, while the Vikings dropped to 4-10 and 0-5. The Falcons, ranked #6 in the state, will now host East Los Angeles College at 6:00 p.m. in a conference game at Gahr High School on Friday...[more]

12.29.10 - Falcons place third at Fullerton Tournament
The Cerritos College women's basketball team was able to avenge a loss from earlier in the season, as they defeated South Coast Conference opponent Los Angeles Trade-Tech College, 67-45 in the third place game at the Fullerton Tournament on Wednesday. The Falcons (12-5) dropped a 60-57 conference score to Trade Tech three weeks ago. The team opened the tournament with a 74-67 win over Santa Monica College and then dropped a 66-55 loss to SCC rival Mt. San Antonio College in the semi-finals. 12.22.10 - Head coach Karen Welliver wins 600th game
It was on January 21, 2009 that Cerritos College women's basketball coach Karen Weilliver became the all-time leader in California Community College women's basketball history with she posted her 564th career win. On Wednesday, Welliver, who is in her 30th season as the Falcon head coach, reached the 600-win milestone after her team's thrilling 58-57 South Coast Conference win at Pasadena City College. Welliver (600-303) is the second coach to reach the 600-win milestone, with Ventura College's Ned Mircetic reaching that plateau earlier in the year...[more]

12.20.10 - Cerritos wins third place game
The Cerritos College women's basketball team really benefitted from the day off at the Orange Coast Classic after dropping a 66-62 decision to Southwestern College in the semi-finals on Saturday. The Falcons, who opened the tournament with a convincing 78-39 win over Saddleback College, captured third place on Monday with a 74-63 win over the host Pirates. Cerritos (9-4) will now resume South Coast Conference play when they travel to face Pasadena City College (10-1) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday...[more]

12.10.10 - Falcons miss chance at conference win
Coming off the College of the Sequoias Tournament championship, the Cerritos College women's basketball team was looking to get back into South Coast Conference riding that wave. But after a week off after the tournament, the Falcons found themselves on the losing end of a 60-57 decision to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College (6-3, 2-0) on Friday night at Gahr High School. Cerritos (7-3, 1-2) will now compete in the Orange Coast Tournament and open on Friday at 1:00 p.m. against Saddleback College...[more]

12.05.10 - Four wins lead to tournament title
On the strength of four wins, the Cerritos College women's basketball team captured the championship of the prestigious College of the Sequoias Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons (7-2) defeated Solano College (79-78), Antelope Valley College (59-44), Santa Barbara City College (64-52) and San Joaquin Delta College (69-64) on consecutive days to win the title. 11.19.10 - Cold-shooting night does in Cerritos
The Cerritos College women's basketball team saw their South Coast Conference record drop to 1-1 early in the year, as they were defeated by Mt. San Antonio College on Friday night, 62-49. The Falcons (3-2), who shot just 26.5% from the field, trailed by 10 at halftime (33-23), as the Mounties shot 40% from the field in the game. 11.17.10 - Falcons win conference opener over Compton
Led by a balanced attack, the Cerritos College women's basketball team opened South Coast Conference play with a 68-47 win in their South Coast Conference opener on Wednesday night. The Falcons (3-1), who received a team-high 14 points from freshman  Andrina Rendon (St. Paul HS), also benefitted from the 10 points and eight rebounds freshman Armelia Patterson (Long Beach Millikan HS) provided. 11.14.10 - Cerritos opens season with second place finish
The Cerritos College women's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season at the Sierra Tournament over the weekend and came away with a pair of wins and a second place finish. The Falcons (2-1) opened the tournament with a 66-56 win over Ohlone College, followed by a 66-55 overtime victory over Sierra College to reach the championship game. In that contest, they fought back from a 43-25 halftime deficit, but came up short on a 73-70 score against Fullerton College. Cerritos will now kick off their South Coast Conference season with an 8:00 p.m. start against ECC Compton Center at Gahr High School. A pair of Cerritos College women's basketball players, who helped the Falcons to a share of the South Coast Conference South Division championship, have signed letters of intent.
