Freshman Cerritos College women’s
cross country runner Shannon Simpson (Fountain
Valley HS) turned in her best performance of the
year this past Saturday at the Southern California
Preview Meet, which was held at Irvine Regional
Park. She turned in a time of 20:40.80 over the 5K
course to come in 20th place overall out
of 233 runners to help the Falcons to a sixth place
finish out of the 28 full squads that ran the race.
Cerritos finished with 188 team points, while
Glendale College won the meet with 40 team points,
with Orange Coast College coming in second pace with
51 points. Southwestern College came in third place
with 141 points, while a pair of South Coast
Conference squads finished ahead of the Falcons,
with Mt. San Antonio College (156) and El Camino
College (175) coming in fourth and fifth,
respectively. Cerritos will now compete in the Santa
Barbara Invitational this Saturday.
Only three
conference runners finished the race ahead of
Simpson, as the Falcons ran the very well from top
to bottom. Freshman Lucy Beuster crossed the
finish line 28th overall with a time of
21:05.70, with freshman Sarah Muniz (Santa
Fe HS) checking in at 21:29.20, good for 44th
place on the day. The team scoring was rounded out
by sophomore Angelica Negrete (Western HS)
in 52nd place at 21:48.40, while
sophomore Tawny Vilchis (Long Beach Poly
HS) placed 55th overall in 21:54.50.
Just missing
out on scoring for the team was freshman Daisy
Perez (Bell Gardens HS), who was the
sixth Falcon to finish in a time of 21:57.90, good
for 58th place. Freshman Jessica Cos
came in 70th place in 22:08.30, with
sophomore China Fleming (Warren HS/Long
Beach City College) finishing in 84th
place in 22:30.40. |
