in state championships
The Cerritos College
women's cross country team turned in a strong
all-around showing on Saturday in the State
Championships at Fresno, which resulted in the
team placing fifth out of the 24 teams that
competed. The Falcons were able to pack their
runners together and finished the race with 150
team points, trailing only Orange Coast
College (84 team points), Glendale College (86),
Southwestern College (91) and Mt. San Antonio

to state championships

Muniz (Santa Fe HS) placed
11th out of 196 runners at the Southern
California Regional Championships on Friday
afternoon at Kern County Soccer Park in
Bakersfield to lead the Cerritos College women's
cross country team to a sixth place finish. The
Falcons, who have now advanced to the State
Championships, will get two weeks to
prepare before heading to Fresno for the

10.31.08 - Team wins third SCC
title in five years
For the third time in
the last five years, the Cerritos College
women's cross country team captured the South
Coast Conference championship. With their
tremendous performance on Friday at Columbia
Park in Torrance, the Falcons will now compete
in the Southern California Championship, which
will be held in Bakersfield next Saturday...[more]
10.18.08 - Falcons finish
strong at Santa Barbara Invitational
After giving the
majority of the team the week off, Cerritos
College women's cross country coach John
Goldman saw his team close the gap with
two of the top teams in Southern California at
the Santa Barbara Invitational, which took place
at Leadbetter Beach on Saturday. The Falcons,
ranked #3 in Southern California, had their five
runners finish in the top 17 and finished in
third place out of the 17 teams that competed.
Cerritos compiled 62 team points and trailed
just Orange Coast College (45 team points) and
Glendale College (54). The five runners in the
top 17 finishers was the best team finish of any
school in the invitational. Cerritos will now
take a week off before competing in the South
Coast Conference Championships on October 31 at

10.11.08 - Cerritos sends only
four runners to race
For the first time all
season, the Cerritos College women's cross
country team did not factor in the team scoring
of an invitational. With two second place and
two fourth place finishes under their belt this
season, the Falcons sent just four freshman
runners to the Brubaker Invitational at Irvine
Regional Park on Saturday. The team's top
runners took the week off in preparation for the
Santa Barbara Invitational this Saturday...[more]
10.03.08 - Falcons use
consistency to place fourth
While most of the 29
teams had their runners spread out all over the
course, the Cerritos College women's cross
country team continued to pack their runners at
the Southern California Preview Meet in
Bakersfield on Saturday and it paid off. The
Falcons placed fourth with 136 team points with
Orange Coast College and Southwestern
College sharing the meet championship with 48
team points each, while Glendale College placed
third with 93 team points. Cerritos will now
head south to run in the UC San Diego
Invitational at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday...[more]
09.20.08 - Cerritos takes
second place at OCC Classic
With one of the best
groups of runners in school history, the
Cerritos College women's cross country team
continues to improve with every meet. On
Saturday, the Falcons placed four of their
runners in the top 12 and parlayed that into a
second place finish at the Orange Coast Classic
at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa. The team
finished with 62 team points and held off South
Coast Conference rival Mt. San Antonio College
(67 points), while host Orange Coast won the
invitational with 49 team points. The team will
get a week off at the midway point in the season
before heading to Bakersfield for the Southern
California Preview Meet on October 3rd...[more]
09.13.08 - Falcons hold off
Mt. San Antonio for 2nd place
Getting their first
look at the location for the state
championships, the Cerritos College women's
cross country team not only showed how strong
and deep their team is, they did so by holding
off several other very good teams. Aside from
Orange Coast College, who won the Fresno
Invitational with 35 teams points, the second
place Falcons (75 points) fought off South Coast
Conference rival Mt. San Antonio College, who
came in third place with 86 team points.
Cerritos will now get another shot at knocking
off Orange Coast when they travel to the Orange
Coast Classic, which will be held at Fairview
Park in Costa Mesa at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday...[more]
09.06.08 - Women come in
fourth place at Irvine
The Cerritos College women's
cross country team, ranked #4 in Southern
California, had several outstanding performances
this past weekend at the Irvine Invitational.
The Falcons, who came in fourth place as a team
with 105 team points, saw eight of their 11
runners finish in the top 43, while only one
community college team had a better team score.
Southwestern College, who won the meet with 52
team points, saw the Falcons have six of their
runners finish before their first five, but the
Jaguars had three runners finish in the top six.
Cerritos will now travel north and compete in
the Fresno Invitational on Saturday...[more]
09.01.08 - Team excels in
first meet of the season
Heading into their
first invitational of the season, the Cerritos
College women's cross country team knew they had
a solid nucleus of returning runners coupled
with several good incoming freshmen. The
Falcons, who placed fourth at the state
championships last year, competed in the
Fullerton Invitational on Monday against eight
four-year schools, several club teams and four
community college teams. Cerritos placed ninth
out of the 15 teams, but trailed only Orange
Coast College at the community college level.
The Pirates finished with 176 teams points,
while the Falcons had 217 points. Cal State Long
Beach won the meet with 82 team points. This
