Sophomore
Sarah Muniz
(Santa Fe HS) placed 11th out of 196
runners at the Southern California Regional
Championships on Friday afternoon at Kern County
Soccer Park in Bakersfield to lead the Cerritos
College women's cross country team to a sixth place
finish. The Falcons, who have now advanced to the
State Championships, will get two weeks to
prepare before heading to Fresno for the November 22
meet at Woodward Park.
Cerritos, running
without sophomore
Robyn
Guggiana (Warren HS/Cal State Long
Beach), who missed the meet due to illness,
finished with 145 team points and trailed only
Glendale College (68 team points), Southwestern
College (77), Orange Coast College (79), Riverside
College (109) and Mt. San Antonio College (120).
Muniz finished the
5K run that took part mainly on a hard, dirt road,
in a time of 18:39.57, and was her best performance
of the year. Sophomore
Shannon
Simpson (Fountain Valley HS)
placed 17th in 18:47.74 and was part of a group of
14 runners that all finished within 20 seconds of
each other at the front of the pack. Sophomore
Alison Bartosch (Squalicum (WA)
HS/Whatcom (WA) CC) was the third Falcon to
finish and placed 39th overall in a time of
19:22.59, while freshman
Allison
Garcia (Sunny Hills HS) ran a
great race and placed 41st overall. Needing someone
to pick up the slack for the lack of Guggiana,
Garcia posted a time of 19:24.01 to help the team.
The final runner to help comprise the team score was
sophomore
Lucy
Beuster (Kennedy HS), who came
in 43rd overall in 19:26.43.
The remaining
Cerritos team consisted of freshman
Daisy Perez
(Bell Gardens HS; 45th place, 19:32.08) and
freshman
Erica
Sandoval (La Mirada HS; 82nd
place, 20:35.16).
