The Cerritos
College women's cross country team turned in a
strong all-around showing on Saturday in the State
Championships at Fresno, which resulted in the team
placing fifth out of the 24 teams that competed. The
Falcons were able to pack their runners together and
finished the race with 150 team points, trailing
only Orange Coast College (84 team points), Glendale
College (86), Southwestern College (91) and Mt. San
Antonio College (97).
Leading the way
for the team was sophomore
Daisy Muniz
(Santa Fe HS), who held strong with a pack
of runners that finished in the first wave, and
placed 21st overall with a time of 18:55.77. The
next group saw the duo of sophomores
Shannon
Simpson (Fountain Valley HS)
and
Alison
Bartosch (Squalicum (WA) HS/Whatcom
(WA) CC) finished in 26th and 27th places,
respectively. Simpson, who placed 34th in last
year's state championship, was clocked in 19:02.26,
while Bartosch finished in 19:02.86. As a freshman,
Muniz came in 42nd place at the state championships.
Sophomore
Lucy
Beuster (Kennedy HS) was the
fourth Falcon to finish the race, as she came in
38th place out of the 191 runners in a time of
19:22.96. Last she, she came in 35th place. The
final Falcon runner to comprise the team's score was
freshman
Allison
Garcia (Sunny Hills HS), who
finished in 57th place in a time of 19:46.05. The
last two runners for Cerritos were sophomore
Daisy Perez
(Bell Gardens HS), who came in 66th place
in 19:58.09, while sophomore
Robyn
Guggiana (Warren HS/Cal State Long
Beach) was right behind in 20:00.00, good for
67th place.
