While most of the
29 teams had their runners spread out all over the
course, the Cerritos College women's cross country
team continued to pack their runners at the Southern
California Preview Meet in Bakersfield on Saturday
and it paid off. The Falcons placed fourth with 136
team points with Orange Coast College and
Southwestern College sharing the meet
championship with 48 team points each, while
Glendale College placed third with 93 team points.
Cerritos will now head south to run in the UC San
Diego Invitational at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Of the five
competitors that comprised the team's score, the
Falcons had theirs finish the 5K run within a
23-second span, with sophomore Shannon
Simpson (Fountain Valley HS) the
first Cerritos runner to finish in a time of 19:38,
which put her in 24th place overall. The final four
crossed the finish line within five seconds of each
other, as sophomore Lucy Beuster (Kennedy
HS) finished in 19:56 (32nd overall),
while freshman Daisy Perez (Bell
Gardens HS) crossed in 19:57 (34th overall).
Freshman Allison Garcia (Sunny
Hills HS) finished in the same time as Perez,
with sophomore Sarah Muniz (Santa Fe HS)
the fifth Falcon with a time of 20:01, good for 38th
place.
There were seven
other Cerritos runners among the 260 competitors,
led by sophomore Robyn Guggiana (Warren
HS/Cal State Long Beach; 20:29; 48th place),
while freshmen Brianna Crum (Kennedy
HS; 21:13, 76th place), Alison Bartosch
(Squalicum (WA), HS/Whatcom (WA) CC; 21:13;
77th place); Erica Sandavol (La
Mirada HS, 21:27, 84th place), Selena
Gallegos (Santa Fe HS, 22:23,
131st place); Misheal Jaco (Warren
HS, 24:29, 193rd place) and Nadia
Jurado (Long Beach Wilson HS,
27:56, 235th place) also competing.
