Heading into their
first invitational of the season, the Cerritos
College women's cross country team knew they had a
solid nucleus of returning runners coupled with
several good incoming freshmen. The Falcons, who
placed fourth at the state championships last year,
competed in the Fullerton Invitational on Monday
against eight four-year schools, several club teams
and four community college teams. Cerritos placed
ninth out of the 15 teams, but trailed only Orange
Coast College at the community college level. The
Pirates finished with 176 teams points, while the
Falcons had 217 points. Cal State Long Beach won the
meet with 82 team points. This Saturday, the team
will compete in the Irvine Invitational.
Leading the way
for the Falcons were sophomores Robyn
Guggiana and Lucy
Beuster, who finished the
5K run in 40th and 41st place, respectively.
Both
Guggiana (19:45.60) and
Beuster (19:46.40) were followed closely by
sophomore Sarah Muniz, who came in
49th place overall in a time of 19:58.80. Also
running well was sophomore Shannon Simpson
with a time of 19:59.90 (50th place), while
sophomore Daisy Perez rounded out the team scoring
with a clocking of 20:29.20, which put her in 64th
place.
Rounding out the
squad were freshmen Allison Garcia
(20:45.60; 76th place); Brianna Crum
(20:47.90; 78th place); Alison
Bartosch (20:57.60; 85th place) and
Selena Gallegos (22:33.00; 121st
place).
