The Cerritos
College women's cross country team, ranked #4 in
Southern California, had several outstanding
performances this past weekend at the Irvine
Invitational. The Falcons, who came in fourth
place as a team with 105 team points, saw eight
of their 11 runners finish in the top 43, while
only one community college team had a better
team score. Southwestern College, who won the
meet with 52 team points, saw the Falcons have
six of their runners finish before their first
five, but the Jaguars had three runners finish
in the top six. Cerritos will now travel north
and compete in the Fresno Invitational on
Saturday.
Leading the
way for the Falcons was sophomore
Shannon Simpson (Fountain Valley HS),
who placed 11th out of the 159 runners with a
time of 19:50.60 in the
5K run. As a team, Cerritos did a great
job of keeping their team in bunches, as
sophomores Robyn
Guggiana (Warren HS) and Lucy
Beuster (Kennedy HS)
finished in 19th and 21st place, respectively.
Guggiana was clocked in 19:59.90, while
Beuster crossed the finish line in
20:02.10. The duo of sophomore Alison
Bartosch (Squalicum,
WA HS; Whatcom (WA) CC) and Allison
Garcia (Sunny Hills HS) placed
29th and 30th, respectively.
Barstoch finished in 20:22.30, with
Garcia running the race in 20:22.80 to finish
out the team scoring.
Sophomore
Daisy Perez (Bell Gardens
HS) just missed out on the team scoring, as
she was the sixth Falcon runner to finish the
race. She came in 34th place overall in a time
of 20:34.30, while sophomore Sarah Muniz
(Santa Fe HS) was 41st overall in a
time of 20:52.50. Freshman Brianna Crum
(Kennedy HS) was close behind in 43rd
place and was clocked at 20:57.00. Also running
for the team were freshmen Selena
Gallegos (Santa Fe HS; 97th
place; 22:31.40), Erica
Sandavol (La Mirada HS;
102nd place; 22:51.30) and Michelle
Jacho (Warren HS; 131st
place; 25:00.50).
