On Saturday, the
Cerritos College women's cross country team competed
in the State Championships at Woodward Park in
Fresno and placed 16th out of the 26 teams that
competed. Glendale College won the championship with
43 team points, while the Falcons finished with 404
team points. There were three teams from the South
Coast Conference that finished ahead of Cerritos.
Leading the team
was freshman
Erica
Sandoval (La Mirada HS), who
finished in 52nd place out of the 199 competitors
and completed the 3-mile course in a time of 19:50.
There was a 37-second gap between Sandoval and
freshman
Sandra
Flores (El Rancho HS), who
completed the race in 20:27 and finished in 88th
place overall. Freshman
Cassandra
Mejia (El Rancho HS) placed
111th with a time of 20:48 to be the third Cerritos
runner to finish.
Freshman Ariana
Sandoval (Valencia HS) was
close behind and finished in a time of 20:56, good
for 120th place, with freshman
Briana Freerksen (El Rancho HS)
next at 128th place in 21:01. Sophomore
Allison
Garcia (Sunny Hills HS) also
finished in 21:01, while sophomore
Selena
Gallegos (Santa Fe HS) was the
final runner, as she was clocked in 21:21, good for
146th place.
