The Cerritos
College women's cross country team finished ninth at
the Southern California Regional Championships,
which took place at Mt. San Antonio College on
Friday, and will now advance to the state
championships. The team will have two weeks before
the travel to Woodward Park in Fresno to run the
state championships. Glendale College easily won the
championship with 38 team points, while Orange Coast
College was second with 87 points. Two South Coast
Conference teams - Mt. San Antonio (3rd place) and
Los Angeles Trade-Tech (6th place) finished ahead of
the Falcons.
Of the 186 runners
that competed in the three-mile race, the Falcons
saw freshman
Erica
Sandoval (La Mirada HS) finish
the race first for the team, as she came in 56th
place overall in a time of 20:12. She was one of
five runners that helped comprise the team's score.
Not far behind were freshmen Ariana
Sandoval (Valencia HS) and
Sandra Flores (El Rancho HS),
who placed 59th and 62nd place, respectively. Ariana
Sandoval was clocked in 20:15, with Flores crossing
the finish line in 20:20.
Freshman
Brianna Freerksen (El Rancho HS)
was just behind that pack of runners and finished in
20:33, good for 74th place overall, with freshman
Cassandra Mejia (El Rancho HS)
rounding out the team scoring when she came in 77th
place in a time of 20:39.
Also running for
the Falcons were sophomore
Selena
Gallegos (Santa Fe HS), who
came in 115th place in a time of 21:39, while
freshman Desirae Rivas finished in
a time of 23:26, which put her in 160th place.
