Led by sophomore
Erica Sandoval's (La Mirada HS)
time of 20:33 at the Fresno Invitational, the
Cerritos College women's cross country team finished
in sixth place out of 20 teams on Saturday. The
Falcons compiled 239 team points, which put them in
a tie with Sacramento City College. Orange Coast
College won the invitational with 41 team points,
while South Coast Conference opponent Mt. San
Antonio College finished in third overall. The team
will now compete in the Orange Coast Classic on
Saturday at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
Sandoval completed
the 3.1-mile course in 48th place out of 179 runners
and was part of a group of runners that included a
trio of teammates. Freshman
Sandra Flores (El
Rancho HS) was clocked in 20:45, which put her
in 55th place overall, with freshman teammate
Melissa Byrd (La Mirada HS)
right behind in 57th place with a time of 20:49.
Joining them was sophomore
Allison
Garcia (Sunny Hills HS), whose
time of 20:54 put her in 61st place overall.
Rounding out the team' top five runners was freshman
Briana Freerksen (El
Rancho HS), who placed 72nd overall with a time
of 21:08.
Cerritos had six
other runners in the race that included Ariana
Sandoval (Valencia HS, 78th
place, 21:17),
Cassandra
Mejia (El Rancho HS, 81st
place, 21:24),
Selena
Gallegos (Santa Fe HS, 89th
place, 21:37), Desirae Rivas (99th
place, 22:07), Belva Taylor (136th
place, 23:53) and
Karen Jacho (Warren HS,
169th place, 28:07).
