The Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in fourth place in the South Coast Conference Championships at Cerritos Park on Saturday by finishing with 101 team points. The Falcons trailed Mt. San Antonio College, who won the event with 37 team points, followed by Los Angeles Trade-Tech College (41) and Pasadena City College, who was third with 87 team points. Cerritos will now compete in the Southern California Championships, which will take place next Saturday at Guasta Park in Ontario. A month ago, Cerritos finished in sixth place at the SoCal Preview Meet, which was held at the same location.
Finishing the fast 5K course first for the Falcons was freshman Natalie Fyke (Esperanza HS), who came in 13th place out of the 74 runners in a time of 19:58, with freshman Giselle Dominguez (Warren HS) leading the second wave of runners to cross the finish line by coming in 18th place in 20:51. Not far behind was freshman Gabriella Villalobos (El Rancho HS), whose time of 20:55 was good for 21st place. After freshman Alexis Perez (Cantwell HS) came in 23rd place in 20:59, Cerritos was able to stack their next three runners who all finished together. Freshman Julia Plecnik (St. Joseph HS) completed the top five runners for the team with her 26th place finish in 21:12, while sophomores Lauren Thompson (Mayfair HS), who came in 27th place at 21:16 and Angela Gonzales (Lakewood HS) finished 28th in 21:17.
Also competing for the Falcons were sophomore Jessica Yuen (Mark Keppel HS; 32nd place; 21:32), freshman Jessica Guzman (California HS; 43rd place; 22:44), freshman Sushama Sharma (Gahr HS; 49th place; 23:09), freshman Brittney Guzman (51st place; 23:16) and freshman Roxana Lopez (Rancho Alamitos HS; 67th place; 25:25).
