Facing 28 other schools from the state, the Cerritos College women's cross country team posted a solid sixth place at the SoCal Preview Meet on Friday. The Falcons, who finished with 211 team points, saw a pair of South Coast Conference teams finish ahead of them, as Mt. San Antonio College took second place with 94 team points and Los Angeles Trade-Tech College finished fifth with 156 team points. The team will run in the Vanguard Invitational on Saturday at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
Running a strong 5K race was freshman Natalie Fyke (Esperanza HS), who completed the course in 19:38.06 to come in 18th place out of the 257 runners, while sophomore Adriana Raya (Artesia HS) wasn't far behind with her time of 19:45.07, good for 23rd place.
The next five Falcon runners finished within 30 seconds of each other, with freshman Julia Plecnik (St. Joseph HS) taking 53rd overall with a time of 20:25.31, while freshmen Giselle Dominguez (Warren HS) and Gabriella Villalobos (El Rancho HS) were the final two runners to help comprise the team score. Dominguez came in 56th place overall in 20:39.17, with Villalobos taking 61st overall in 20:43.21.
The remainder of the squad included Alexis Perez (Cantwell HS; 65th overall; 20:53.03), Angela Gonzales (Lakewood HS; 68th overall 20:55.38), Lauren Thompson (Mayfair HS; 75th overall; 21:05.34), Jessica Yuen (Mark Keppel HS; 88th overall; 21:24.6), Roxana Lopez (122nd overall; 22:20.90), Brittany Guzman (173rd overall; 23:51.54) and Sushama Sharma (Gahr HS; 177th overall; 24:03.09).
