With a relentless offensive
attack that started from the outset of the game, the
Cerritos College women's soccer team finally found
results, as they registered a 3-1 South Coast
Conference win at Pasadena City on Tuesday
afternoon. With the victory, their fifth in a row,
the Falcons are now 10-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in
conference play. The team will now travel to Mt. San
Antonio College on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
Although the Falcons continued to
dominate the game and pound the Lancer defense, they
led only 1-0 well into the second half. Cerritos
wound up putting 33 shots on goal against Pasadena
City, with the Lancers recording just one shot on
goal, which was penalty kick in the 62nd minute that
tied the game at 1-1. The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in
the 28th minute on a goal by freshman forward
Monica
Cedillo
(Long
Beach Millikan HS)
with sophomore midfielder
Jackie
Flores
(Lynwood
HS)
getting the assist. However, Pasadena did push the
ball into dangerous territory once and they drew a
penalty kick, which was successfully taken by Grecia
Staniesteban against back-up goalkeeper
Diana Limon
(Long
Beach Millikan HS).
But the relentless attack finally
paid off for Cerritos, as Cedillo and Flores paired
up for the team's eventual game-winning goal. In the
70th minute, Flores sent a pass deep into the box
for Cedillo, who headed the ball into the net past
Lancer goalkeeper Casey Hodge, who did make 17 saves
on the day. The Falcons picked up an insurance goal
in the 88th minute, as Flores capped off a
tremendous game with a goal, as freshman
Rebecca
Juarez
(Jurupa
Valley HS)
picked up the assist.
