The Cerritos College women's soccer
team got goals from four different players, as they
posted a 4-0 South Coast Conference win at Mt. San
Antonio College on Friday afternoon. The win was the
sixth in a row for the Falcons, who are now 11-1-0
overall and 3-0-0 in conference action. Cerritos will
now play their fifth game in a row on the road when
they travel to Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday
for a 4:00 p.m. game.
In the first half, the Falcons
scored twice and added two more in the second half,
while sophomore goalkeeper
Elizabeth
Sanchez
(Bachillerato
#30, Mexico HS)
returned in the net to post her eighth win of the
season and recorded her fifth shutout of the season.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard
in the 35th minute when freshman forward
Monica
Cedillo
(Long
Beach Millikan HS)
sent a pass over the Mountie defense to freshman
forward
Karina
Rivera
(Garfield
HS),
who sent a shot on net. After the Mountie goalkeeper
made the first save, Rivera headed the rebound into
the net for a lead the team would not relinquish. For
their second goal, freshman midfielder
Rebecca
Juarez
(Jurupa
Valley HS)
turned in an incredible individual effort to score in
the 40th minute. After stealing the ball at midfield,
she took on three defenders while rushing the ball up
the left side and after getting past them, went in to
beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one play.
In the second half, Cerritos had
Juarez set up for a corner kick with her pass going
into sophomore halfback
Sandra
Jacobo
(Long
Beach Millikan HS),
who headed the ball into the net for a goal in the
53rd minute. The scoring was closed out in the 60th
minute, as sophomore midfielder
Diana Limon
(Long
Beach Millikan HS)
dribbled the ball up the left side into the field and
sent a pass to sophomore forward
Laura
Alvarez
(Cantwell
HS),
who beat one defender and drove a hard shot into the
net.
On the day Sanchez wasn't tested
very much, but came up with the two saves she was
asked to make.
