Freshman forward
Monica
Cedillo (Long
Beach Millikan HS) scored a natural hat
trick (three consecutive goals) to help lead the
Cerritos College women's soccer team to a 4-0 South
Coast Conference victory at Los Angeles Harbor College
on Tuesday afternoon. The win was the seventh in a row
for the Falcons, who are now 12-1-0 overall and 4-0-0
in conference play. The team will try to extend their
winning streak to eight games on Friday when they host
cross-town rival Long Beach City College at 4:00 p.m.
Playing without three of their
starters, the Falcons were able to turn to others for
their scoring, with Cedillo now tied for the team lead
in goals with sophomore
Laura
Alvarez (Cantwell
HS), who each have nine on the year.
Cerritos opened the scoring in the
30th minute when sophomore midfielder
Jackie
Flores (Lynwood
HS) sent a corner kick in to Cedillo,
while in the second half, Cedillo received a corner
kick in the 53rd minute from freshman
Rebecca
Juarez (Jurupa
Valley HS), with the result being another
goal. In the 61st minute sophomore defender
Nancy
Gutierrez (A.B.
Miller HS) sent a pass over the Seahawk
defense to Cedillo, who sent a shot into the far post
past the goalkeeper for her third goal of the game.
The Falcons closed out the scoring in the 89th minute
when Gutierrez connected with Flores, who drilled a
shot from outside the box for her sixth goal of the
season.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Elizabeth
Sanchez (Bachillerato
#30,
Mexico HS)
was the recipient of solid defense and was not asked
to make any saves, as she picked up her ninth win and
sixth shutout of the season. By contrast, the Falcons
recorded 13 shots on goal.
