For the second time in three games,
freshman forward
Monica
Cedillo (Long
Beach Millikan HS) scored three goals to
help lead the Cerritos College women's soccer team to a
victory. On Tuesday afternoon at El Camino College,
Cedillo accounted for three goals, as the Falcons posted
a 4-0 South Coast Conference win, while she had three in
the team's 4-1 win against Los Angeles Harbor College
last Tuesday. The win was the ninth in a row for
Cerritos, who is now 14-1-0 on the year and 6-0-0 in
conference play. The team will now play host to East Los
Angeles College on Friday at 2:00 p.m., while they
posted a 4-0 win over the Huskies in their first
meeting.
Cedillo, who now leads the team with
13 goals on the season, opened the scoring in the 25th
minute with a header after taking a pass from freshman
Rebecca Juarez
(Jurupa Valley HS),
who took the ball all the way down the line for her
crossing pass. At the 41st minute, sophomore
Sandra Jacobo
(Long Beach
Millikan HS) controlled the ball at the
center of the field and sent a pass to Cedillo, whose
took a shot from the outside of the box and into the
upper corner to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Right before halftime, the Falcons
extended their lead to 3-0 after sophomore defender
Nancy
Gutierrez (A.B.
Miller HS) pushed the ball up the field and
led a perfect pass to sophomore
Jackie Flores
(Lynwood HS),
who drilled a shot into the net from 25 yards out in the
45th minute. The defense continued to dominate the El
Camino offense, who took only two soft shots at Cerritos
goalkeeper
Elizabeth
Sanchez (Bachillerato
#30,
Mexico HS).
Sanchez made both saves to earn the win and post her
seventh shutout of the season.
The Falcons finished off the scoring
in the 55th minute when Juarez and Cedillo hooked up
again for a goal. Juarez sent a crossing pass into the
box for Cedillo, who chest trapped it and one-timed the
ball into the net. Cedillo looked to have her fourth
goal of the game, but the team was called for offside. |
