Over the last two seasons, the
Cerritos College women's soccer team has played Orange
Coast College three times. Last year, the team went
1-0-1, including a 3-1 overtime win in the Southern
California Regional Playoffs, which was the school's
first post-season victory ever. On Wednesday, the
Falcons traveled to Costa Mesa to face the Pirates and
came away with a 1-0 non-conference victory that
improved their record to 4-0-0, while Orange Coast
dropped to 2-2-0. The team will now look to improve on
their fastest start in school history when they travel
to San Diego Mesa College for a 4:00 p.m. contest on
Friday.
Sophomore forward
Laura Alvarez
(Cantwell
HS)
scored the lone goal in the game right before halftime,
as she received a deep pass from sophomore midfielder
Jackie Flores
(Lynwood
HS)
and scored against Pirate goalkeeper Katie Johnson in
the 42nd minute. The pass to Alvarez came down the right
side, where she took it in full stride and ripped a shot
into the net for third goal of the season.
Falcon keeper
Elizabeth Sanchez
(Bachillerato
#30, Mexico HS)
made six saves on the day, but was challenged late in
the game by Orange Coast, who saw Nicole Huff's shot in
the 75th minute deflect off the crossbar. |
