The Cerritos College women's soccer
team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their non-conference
game at San Diego Mesa College on Friday, but fell
victim to two quick goals and had to settle for a 2-2
tie. With the draw, the Falcons are now 4-0-1 on the
season and will travel to Yuba College on Friday for a
4:00 p.m. contest.
Freshman forward
Karina Rivera
(Garfield
HS)
gave Cerritos a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on a rebound
off a shot by freshman forward
Monica
Cedillo
(Long
Beach Millikan HS).
Rivera took off on a breakaway and then passed the ball
to Cedillo, whose shot was blocked, but the rebound came
to Rivera, who scored. It became a 2-0 Falcon lead in
the 55th minute after sophomore defender
Nancy
Gutierrez
(A.B.
Miller HS)
scored on a penalty kick.
However, the Olympians came right
back after the penalty kick and scored in the 57th
minute to cut their deficit in half and then time the
game just two minutes later, as sophomore goalkeeper
Elizabeth
Sanchez
(Bachillerato
#30 HS, Mexico)
was beat on a hard shot. On the day Sanchez made four
saves.
Cerritos only had three shots in the
second half, after recording seven in the first half,
with freshman
Rebecca Juarez
(Jurupa
Valley HS)
leading the team with three shots for the game. |
