After a very sluggish first half, in
which the Cerritos College women's soccer team fell
behind 1-0 to Antelope Valley College, the Falcons
stormed out in the second half and scored three goals in
the span of four minutes and went on for a 4-1 victory.
The win improves the team's record to 7-1-0, while the
Marauders dropped to 1-7-2. Earlier in the week, the
Falcons were awarded a forfeit win against San Diego
Mesa College from their September 8 2-2 draw after the
Olympians announced they used an ineligible player.
Cerritos will now travel to Victor Valley College on
Monday for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
Antelope Valley took their 1-0 lead
in the 13th minute when Katie Tague's shot that was
intended to be sent into the Cerritos zone, caught
goalkeeper
Elizabeth
Sanchez (Bachillerato
#30 Mexico HS) out of position and the ball
went into the net. Although Cerritos controlled then
tempo in the first half, the Marauders were able to shut
down all of the attacks and took a lead into the half.
The second half scoring barrage
started in the 51st minute, as sophomore midfielder
Diana Limon
(Long Beach
Millikan HS) sent a crossing pass into the
box that was headed into the net by sophomore forward
Laura Alvarez
(Cantwell HS).
Less than a minute later, Alvarez had a hand in the
second goal, as her pass was chipped into the net by
freshman
Karina Rivera
(Garfield HS),
who was positioned in the far right corner. The Falcons
weren't done there, and neither was Alvarez, who picked
up her second goal of the game in the 55th minute on
another header, with sophomore halfback
Sandra Jacobo
(Long Beach
Millikan HS) sending a picture-perfect pass.
The Falcons closed out the scoring in the 87th minute,
as Limon was able to handle a rebound off a shot by
freshman
Rebecca Juarez
(Jurupa Valley HS)
for a goal.
Throughout the game, the Falcons
attacked the net and put 24 shots on the board while
Antelope Valley had just two. |
