The Cerritos College women's
soccer team closed out their non-conference schedule
on Monday with a convincing 4-0 win at Victor Valley
College. But, it didn't come without its
consequences. Three Falcon players earned red cards
in the win and will be forced to miss the South
Coast Conference opener at East Los Angeles College
on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. With about 10 minutes left
in the game, the play got physical in front of the
benches and the referee issued red cards to
sophomore goalkeeper
Elizabeth
Sanchez
(Bachillerato
#30, Mexico HS),
freshman forward
Karina
Rivera
(Garfield
HS)
and sophomore defender
Ailema
Damian
(El
Monte HS).
Finishing out the game in goal was sophomore
midfielder
Diana Limon
(Long
Beach Millikan HS)
and either her or freshman
Monica
Rodriguez
(Long
Beach Millikan HS)
will play in goal against the Huskies.
Prior to all of the activity, the
Falcons received two goals from sophomore forward
Laura
Alvarez
(Cantwell
HS)
and sophomore midfielder
Jackie
Flores
(Lynwood
HS),
who also assisted on the fourth goal of the game.
Flores gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 24th
minute when she scored a goal on a free kick from 35
yards out. Cerritos turned up the heat in the second
half, with sophomore defender
Jessica
Romero
(Castel
Park HS)
sending a pass behind the defense to Alvarez, who
placed the ball into the net on the near post.
In the 60th minute, freshman
forward
Monica
Cedillo
(Long
Beach Millikan HS)
was in the box and passed the ball back to Flores,
who scored from outside the box with a well-placed
left-footed shot. The scoring was closed out in the
78th minute on a tremendous individual play by
Alvarez. After receiving a clearing pass from
Flores, Alvarez took on two defenders on the left
side and after entering the box, crossed over and
scored off the far post for a spectacular goal.
Prior to her ejection from the
game, Sanchez made two saves, while Limon made one
in the final 10 minutes of the game.
