Moving over to the Cerritos
College women’s coach staff after serving as
an assistant coach for the men’s team from
2005-06, Steve Soler has been coaching at
the community college level for four years.
He started coaching as an assistant at Rio
Hondo College from 2003-04 and then at Long
Beach City College (2004-05), where he
helped them advance to the state semi-final
game. In addition to his college coaching
experience, Soler has also coached four
different club teams.
While coaching the Cerritos
Regional Infinity GU-19 team, he helped them
win the Silver, Silver Elite and Gold
brackets to advance to the Premier league,
while 15 of those players currently have
committed to Division I schools. That squad
also won two Cerritos Memorial Challenge
titles, while also reaching the finals of
the Blues Cup, Nomads College Showcase,
Pleasanton Rage and NHB. Additionally, he
had coached the Cerritos Regional Infinity
GU-14 team that was the league finalist in
2006 and was a National Cup quarterfinalist,
along with the Orange Soccer Club GU-19 that
won the Silber Elite in 2005 and three other
titles and coached the Orange Soccer Club
GU-15 team that won the Gold Medal earlier
this year.
Soler’s playing career
consisted of being a three-time All-CIF
selection at St. John Bosco High, where he
set their school records for most career
goals (83), most goals in a season (37) and
most goals in a game (7). He went on to play
two seasons at Rio Hondo College, where he
was a two-time All-American and All-Foothill
Conference selection. He also led the team
in assists and was second in goals scored.
While at Whittier College, where he majored
in business administration, Soler was a
two-time All-SCIAC selection and led them in
assists. His club playing experience
consists of playing for the CRSC Brigade
team for seven years and the Mission Viejo
Pateadores for one season. He played at the
premier level at all age groups and was
coached by Alex Camargo and Mike Gartland. |
