For the second straight game, the Cerritos College
women’s soccer team showed that their ability to score
at will could possibly result in some very lopsided
scores. In their season opener the Falcons posted an 8-0
win against Golden West College. They followed that with
a 10-0 victory against Oxnard College on Thursday.
Cerritos (2-0-0) will now head back to Oxnard to play in
the Sea Breeze Tournament this weekend.
As they did in
the win over the Rustlers, the Falcons were able to get
goals from a multitude of players, as six players
scored, with freshman
Corina
Villegas (Perris HS) leading the way with
three goals and an assist. It was freshman
Desiree
Cardenas (West Covina HS) who had a hat
trick in the first game, but sat out this contest.
Scoring twice for the team were freshman
Monique
Cisneros (Mayfair HS), as well as
freshman Georgina Garcia, who picked up her two
goals late in the second half.
The Falcons
opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as Cisneros
scored after receiving a pass from freshman
Maria Zubiate
(La Puente HS), who took the ball from the top of
the box and cut through before sending the ball. Just
two minutes later, sophomore Rebecca Juarez (Jurupa
Valley HS) fed a nice long pass to Zubiate, who
scored into the far post. By the end of the first half,
it was 4-0 after Villegas and Cisneros both scored.
The second half
saw Cerritos score in bunches, with freshman
Vanessa
Monreal (Lynwood HS) opening it up five
minutes into the half, before freshman
Yasmin Torres
(El Rancho HS) scored on a rebound from the
corner of the box. Villegas scored the team’s next two
goals, with the first being from the corner kick spot
that eluded the Oxnard goalkeeper. Garcia then closed
out the scoring in the 80th and 86th
minutes. Zubiate and freshman Susana Mendoza each
assisted on two goals, while freshman goalkeeper
Chantal
Cervero (Cerritos HS) was not asked to
make any saves on the day for the second consecutive
game. |
