The Cerritos College
women’s soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead
and then added another goal in the second half to record
a 3-0 win over East Los Angeles College on Friday, With
the win, the Falcons are now 12-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in
the South Coast Conference. The team will now travel to
Long Beach City on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. conference
game. The
scoring opened in the 28th minute with a
tremendous individual play, as freshman
Susanna
Mendoza (Paloma Valley HS) won the ball
at midfield and proceeded to dribble deep into Huskie
territory, while taking on five players along the way.
After getting past the fifth player, she sent off a shot
from about 30 yards out that found the back of the net.
Before the end of the first half, the Falcons received a
big goal from the smallest player on the field. After
sophomore
Rebecca Juarez (Jurupa Valley HS) sent a
crossing pass toward the ELAC goal, it took a bounce in
the box, where 4-11 freshman
Yasmin Torres
(El Rancho HS) out-jumped the Huskies keeper and
scored.
Finishing off
the scoring was freshman
Alyesse Orr
(St. Joseph HS), who scored from five yards
outside the box on a free kick, as her shot went over
the outstretched arms of the East LA goalkeeper.
Securing her
third shutout of the season was freshman
Chantal
Cervero (Cerritos HS), who received some
help from freshman
Rosario
Mendoza (Dominguez HS), who came on in
the final 30 minutes to share in the win. It was the
first action of the season for Mendoza, who made two
saves, as did Cervero, who played the first 60 minutes.
Cerritos did receive a huge blow in the game, as Juarez
received a red card in the 60th minute and
will have to miss the game against the Vikings. |
