Fresh of their convincing wins over two of the nation's
top-ranked programs, the Cerritos College women's soccer
team is now off to embark on their first out-of-state
trip to square off against two more nationally-ranked
opponents. Over the weekend, the Falcons (5-0-1) posted
a 5-1 win over the defending national champion Richland
(TX) College team and then followed that the next day
with a 6-1 win over ninth-ranked Yuba College. Those
schools, along with Cerritos, are ranked as Community
College Division III teams because they don't offer
scholarships. This coming weekend, the team is flying to
Florida to face top Division I programs, which are those
that offer scholarships.
On Saturday, Cerritos, now ranked #7 by the NSCAA/adidas
polls, will meet Catonsville (MD) College, who is ranked
in the Top 20 in the Division I polls. They will follow
that with a game the next day against #3-rated Polk
County (FL) College.
"This is a great opportunity for our team to get some
national exposure and see how we fare against Division I
teams," said Falcon head coach Ruben Gonzalez. "We've
made great strides in the last couple of years and this
will give our young team a chance to play in a different
environment against teams we wouldn't normally play
against." |
