When you win a state championship and finish the
season ranked #2 in the country, you get
requests from a variety of teams interested a
game. For the Cerritos College women's soccer
team, their request came from outside the
country, as the Mexican Under-20 National Team
came calling, looking for a match. The Falcons
have obliged, and will face them on campus on
Thursday, April 3rd and 5:15 p.m. in what is
being called an International Friendly Match.
"This is a
great opportunity for our program and it is an
honor to play a National Team," said Falcon head
coach
Ruben Gonzalez, who led Cerritos to the
state championship this past season with a
come-from-behind 2-1 win over Santiago Canyon
College. "It will be a great experience for the
players, as well as myself."
The Mexican
Under-20 National Team features the best young
players the country as to offer, while it has
also produced several Falcon players.
Rebecca Juarez, who just completed her
sophomore season with Cerritos, and was an
All-American selection this past year, played in
the World Cup for Mexico in Russia last year, as
did
Monique Cisneros, who completed her
first year with the Falcons last season. In
addition, second-year players
Susanna Mendoza and
Desiree Cardenas have both gone to train
with the team.
Tickets for
the game are $7.00 pre-sale, while they will
cost $9.00 at the gate. Fans can purchase
tickets by calling the Cerritos College Athletic
Office at (562) 860-2451 ext. 2864.
