Cerritos College
sophomore women's soccer forward
Monique
Cisneros (Mayfair HS) had a
month to remember in October. In helping the Falcons
maintain the top spot in the national rankings,
Cisneros scored 15 goals and assisted on five more
in the month, and helped the Falcons to an 8-0-1
record. For her efforts, Cisneros was named the
CCCAA Women's Athlete of the Month for October.
Included in the month was a six-goal game against
College of the Desert, and a four-goal game against
Los Angeles Harbor College in South Coast Conference
play. Cisneros and the Falcons are currently 15-0-4
on the year and 8-0-2 in the conference and are one
win away from defending their conference
championship.
After the
conclusion of the regular season, Cisneros and the
rest of her team will attempt to defend the state
championship they won last year for the first time
in school history. With only two regular season
games remaining, Cisneros had tied the school's
single-season goal scoring record (32) and will
break it with her next goal. She currently shares
the record with teammate
Corina
Villegas, who scored 32 goals in 2007
and Kelly Walker, who set the
original record in 1996. Cisneros already holds the
school's all-time goal-scoring record of 53 goals.
The CCCAA Athlete
of the Month program is coordinated by the
California Community College Sports Information
Association (CCCSIA) and the California Community
Colleges Athletic Association (CCCAA).
