After wins in the
second round of the Southern California Regional
Playoffs on Tuesday, both the men's and women's
soccer teams will be hosting their opponents on
Saturday and found out who they are to face with a
trip to the state championships on the line. In both
games, the Falcons will be facing South Coast
Conference opponents. The men, seeded #2, will host
#3-seeded Pasadena City College at 2:00 p.m., while
the top-ranked women's team will square off against
5th-seeded Mt. San Antonio at 11:00 a.m.
The Falcon men's
team (19-4-1), 1-0 winners over Riverside College in
the second round, suffered one of their four losses
to Pasadena City in the first round of conference
action this season. On Tuesday, the Lancers (15-5-1)
came back from a 2-1 deficit against Los Angeles
Harbor College to post a 4-2 overtime win. Back on
October 14, PCC defeated Cerritos, 3-1, while the
Falcons won a 2-0 decision in their second meeting
in November 7.
Back in 2004,
Cerritos defeated the Lancers in the third round to
make their second-ever trip to the state tournament,
where they lost in the championship game to Santa
Ana College. The Falcons won their first state title
in 2006.
The Cerritos
women's team (19-0-4) are not only seeded #1 in the
playoffs, they are also the defending state
champions have gone 31-0-5 in their last 36 games
and have not lost since a 1-0 setback to Long Beach
City College on October 16, 2007. The Falcons posted
3-0 wins in the first two rounds of the playoffs
against San Bernardino Valley College and Los
Angeles Pierce College on Tuesday. As for Mt. SAC,
the #5 seed defeated Bakersfield College in the
first round and then earned the right to play the
Falcons with a 4-2 win over #4-seeded Cuyamaca
College on Tuesday. In their two games against the
Mounties this season, Cerritos recorded a 1-1 tie
when they scored in the 90th minute of the game and
followed with a 3-0 win two weeks ago.
Both teams have
gone unbeaten at home this year, with the men
posting a 10-0-0 mark, while the women are 8-0-1 on
home territory this season.
