With home wins on
Saturday afternoon, both the Cerritos College men's
and women's soccer teams have advanced to the CCCAA
State Championships, which will be held next Friday
and Sunday at College of the Canyons in Valencia.
The Falcon men's team (20-4-1) defeated Pasadena
City College, 5-2 on Saturday and are the #2-seeded
team from Southern California, while the women's
team (20-0-4), ranked #1, defeated Mt. San Antonio,
3-0 in overtime. This year marks the first time both
teams have advanced in the same season.
The men, who won the state title in 2006,
will face the top-seeded team from Northern
California, Santa Rosa College (19-0-4) in the first
game at 10:00 a.m., who
defeated Taft College, 3-0 in their third round
game. As for the defending state champion women's
team, Cerritos will play Modesto College (20-4-3) in
the final game of the day at 7:00 p.m.,
who upset #2-seeded Cosumnes River, 2-1 on Saturday.
In the other
semi-final games, Mt. San Antonio College will face
Cabrillo College on the men's side at 1:00 p.m., while San Diego Mesa
College will square off against Santa Rosa College
at 4:00 p.m. in the other women's game.
